When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. We liked the same stuff, and I could count on him to be the grey soldiers when I was the olive drab ones, or to pilot the tie fighter when I was in the x-wing. I never really got around to naming him, probably because I was upset about the way he'd touch me when we played in the closet, but I guess he was a friend nevertheless.

Imaginary friends have been the subject of more than one movie, from the classic Pooh Bear cartoons, to the sappy but touching Bogus, to the angels born from a sick boy's fever dreams in North Fork (or were they real?). I have to admit though, that when I watched Fight Club the first time, it didn't occur to me that I had seen the film before. Not exactly mind you, but in daily installments in the comic section of the local paper. So in another pop-art frappe that seems to be the theme of this Saturday, I present you with:

Fight Club - The Return of Hobbes

Yeah, but Fight Club really did a number on my brain anyway, so I'm biased. I saw that movie, and first heard Papa Roach's "Between Angels and Insects" within a day of each other... it really makes you ask yourself what the hell you're doing.

(lyrics follow, if you don't know the song)

There's no money, there's no possessions, only obession
I don't need that shit, take my money, take my obsession

I just wanna be heard, loud and clear are my words, comin from within man
Tell em what you heard, it's about a revolution
In your heart and in your mind, you can find the conclusion
Lifestyle and obsession, diamond rings get you nothin but a lifelong lesson
And your pocketful stressin, you're a slave to the system
Workin jobs that you hate, for that shit you don't need
It's too bad the world is based on greed, step back and see
Stop thinkin bout yourself, start thinkin bout

There's no money, there's no possession, only obession, I don't need that shit
Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession, I don't need that

Coz everything is nothing, and emptiness is in everything
This reality is really just a fucked up dream
With the flesh and the blood that you call your soul, flip it inside out
It's a big black hole, take your money burn it up like an asteroid
Possessions, they are never gonna fill the void, take it away
And learn the best lesson, the heart, the soul, the life, the passion

There's no money, there's no possession, only obsession, I don't need that shit
Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession, I don't need that shit

Money, possession, obsession, present yourself, press your clothes
Comb your hair and clock in, you just can't win, just can't win
The things you own, own you, no!

Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession, I don't need that shit
Fuck your money, fuck your possession, fuck your obsession, I don't need that shit
Money, possession, obsession, I don't need that shit

that is an amazing song...i love it and know it...so i can see how hearing that song for the first time and seeing the movie could really effect someone...

for me, fight club represented a lot of my feelings about money and the importance of what is truly important to oneself...i was going through all of that in my life at the time...realizing young that money does not bring happiness...and realizing that my words, (my poetry) was the most fulfilling part of my life...losing a lot of money in the market crash taught me that nothing but what you can truly create and have some kind of tangible hold on will ever be important in your life...yes, we can make money but it never truly is our own...it's a necessary evil...that sometimes can make things/life come easier...

so that's my fight club...moment
