Jun. 20th, 2004 11:10 amThis morning in the shower, I stood with my eyes closed. I felt the water beating against my face, flowing downward, organizing itself into rivulets amidst the hills and valleys of my body. Like nature in fast foward, the streams changed course with every subtle movement, and I wondered - is this how the seasons and decades feel to mother earth? Dry seasons and rainy seasons go unnoticed, the scale is grander... rivers meandering the landscape, shorelines and mountains and deserts in constant motion. The things regarded by humans as unchanging actually more vibrant than we will ever know.
So as I stood there, being the earth, I thought of the grand canyon and laughed.
I took a step back and looked at my hands. Not erosion exactly, but perhaps it was time to get out. I was wrinkling. Sunday mornings are a great time to immerse ones self in the simple acts of life. Bathing, drying, shaving... a whole host of sensations that we bypass in our daily workday rush. They are full of pleasure when you slow down enough to pay attention.
This was going to be a "State of the X Address", but I've run out of time. Maybe later. :)
