It wasn't flying. :) It was clinging to some sheer curtains by my kitchen window, and was backlit by the sky. I put it in macro mode and adjusted exposure for the bees body. No flash, just tripod, longish exposure (1/6?), and the curtains disappeared.

It was quite cooperative though, content to just sit there and twiddle his mouth parts and antennae.

Responded to a previous poster on the topic, but in brief it wasn't flying, it was clinging to a curtain, and I used exposure and focus to white out the curtain. He was actually upside down from how it's displayed.
