You might be a redneck if...
Nov. 23rd, 2003 06:45 pm... you've ever used your car jack to jack up your HOUSE. (i'll explain later)
Today:
Breakfast for kids and self
Do dishes
Do laundry
Say goodbye to our weekend guest
Spend rest of day working on the house w/my Dad's help. Removed or reinforced all the bad wood, put in a new sillplate, insulated, put up new weather treated plywood. All that is left is to put up new siding and put the shingles back up.
Doesn't sound like much, but it was a major undertaking, mainly the sillplate. We had to replace about 20' of a load bearing member, 6 foot of which we didn't have clear access to because it was under the front door, behind the concrete front step slab, and in front of the floor joists on the basement side. Solution... use hydraulic jack to slightly lift floor joists, use sledgehammer to pound the sillplate in longways. That was a Looooong 6 feet.
Oh, also moved the rabbit cage up next to the house, and extended the legs on the downhill side to make it level. Had to raise it a foot (!!) on one end. I didn't realize the yard was that steep.
