You know, it used to be the Democrats who trampled on my freedom the most, which is why I tended to like Republicans. I think that's changing. My general philosophy on government is whoever gives the people more freedom is going to be the better for me in general. Get out of our fucking way, let us do our thing, quit trying to be our mother. The current administration is really pissing me off regarding privacy and basic FREEDOM issues, which tend to be my number one concern. From what I can see, abuse of the Patriot act is becoming more widespread (did you ever see broader powers given to the police NOT result in abuse?) and it is becoming the worst blow to personal privacy and freedom that I can think of in my lifetime. Check out this article:

The Justice Department is now prosecuting Brett Bursey, who was arrested for holding a "No War for Oil" sign at a Bush visit to Columbia, S.C. Local police, acting under Secret Service orders, established a "free-speech zone" half a mile from where Bush would speak. Bursey was standing amid hundreds of people carrying signs praising the president. Police told Bursey to remove himself to the "free-speech zone."

Not to mention this slightly older one, in which a court says the FBI can't use the OnStar system to evesdrop on passengers in cars, but only because it might interfere with their roadside emergency service:
