misterx: (me corona)
Storm's birthday party was this weekend and all went well. We had it at this indoor playground called "Fun Adventure"... it has one of those huge kid-scale habitrails, a toddler play area, video games, mini golf, skee ball, etc. It was an utter madhouse, as there were 6 other parties going on, plus all the regular customers, but the kids had fun. Probably a dozen kids showed up... twice the amount that RSVP'ed, of course. Really glad my Mom helped out though. She decorated and made games for the kids to play (pin the wing on the fairy, fishing for fairies), and really wore herself out.

Been staying home mostly, to be around Mel. She's improving, slowly, but definitely seeming more cheerful. I am SO out of practice with making meals. I was really fried last week, and it was hard, especially because Mel couldn't eat most of the stuff she had bought because of her throat. I think I'll do better this week, as I got to do the shopping and thus I semi-planned as I shopped.

A downside to staying home is that I haven't been taking many pictures. On the upside though, I've had a lot of computer time for working on my website. I've worked out a basic page layout and menu system, and am ready to break out the layout/graphics into templates and start making content pages. About freaking time, eh! I had serious creative block for most of last week, just couldn't come up with anything I liked. It definitely went better working on it weekend mornings than in the evenings. The design is simple and neutral, to better showcase the images. I find looking at images in a complicated or brightly colored layout distracting, it's hard to decide what you like because of all the noise around it. That's what I'm trying to avoid with my design. We'll see if it worked soon enough.

Question... some of my pics are not going to work well at 4x5 aspect ratio, so I won't offer them in 8"x10". But I am thinking of offering them in their existing 3x4 ratio at the larger size of 15"x20" (trimming 1/2" off each side of a 16"x20" print). Here's my reasoning: I think that when people buy an 8"x10", they like taking advantage of the existing frames/mats that are precut for that size. With a larger size print like a 16"x20" (or a 15"x20") you are more likely to take it somewhere to get it framed, and thus it doesn't matter as they'll cut the mat and frame to size. In my looking about, the "do it yourself" options for framing a 16"x20" print are few and far between, so it won't matter so much if it's 15"x20" instead. Do you agree with that?

I find 3x4 to be a generally more appealing aspect ratio anyway. 4x5 is too squarish for my tastes. It really depends on the image though.

So, in summary:

  • taking care of my sweetie,
  • birthday production mode,
  • working on photo website,
  • puzzling photo options,
  • trying to keep sanity

Hmm, that was long. Deal with it.
