Winamp plugin for player devices
Aug. 16th, 2004 10:28 pmThe scenario...
-you have a portable mp3 player
-when connected to usb, it mounts as a drive, F:\ or similar
-it doesn't support m3u playlists or other playlists created on the PC
Apparently a lot of the compact players fall into this category. The irritation is that copying files over to the player often results in an apparently random play order. If you want to set the play order from your PC, you end up manually copying all the files to another dir, prepending all the files with a number sequence, then copying the whole dir to the player. I've been reading users of Rio, IRiver, Samsung, RCA and others all complaining of this problem.
The solution:
The gen_yar plugin for winamp. It adds a menu item called "Copy Playlist Files" to the main Winamp menu. You compose your playlist, then select this menu item. It prompts for where to copy them... make a dir on your device and pick it. Check the box for Add Sequence Number. It sends the files to player, prepending a sequence number as 001_[filename].mp3 002_[filename].mp3 etc.
Works like a charm. Major time saver if you like your playlists.
Caveats:
-manual install, copy the DLL to the Plugins directory.
-only works with the "classic skin" :-\
It rocks anyway. :)
