I shoot in RAW format. I use Pixmantec's Rawshooter Essentials, to handle my RAW to TIFF conversions... it's free, and it does everything I need. Best workflow I've seen in any raw conversion software.

Naturally, Adobe can't have this, and bought them out. They are shutting down the Rawshooter product line.

Adobe will release their own product called "Lightroom", which the FAQ says will come in at a higher price point than Rawshooter Premium, Pixmantec's "deluxe" version of Essentials. What a surprise.

This might be good news for people with deeper pockets than I, but personally I'm saddened by this turn of events. Rawshooter Essentials was a simple, lightweight, elegant piece of software that did it's job in an exemplary fashion. It's successor Lightroom will likely be bloated and require a lot of horsepower just to run.

I've downloaded the installer for the latest release of Rawshooter Essentials, to be burned to CD for archiving. If you like this software, you might want to do the same.

Here's a link to Lightroom, since that is the future:

Oh, and...

I'm back from NJ (my brother's wedding) and NYC (being tourists). More on all that later.
