If you like my photography, please consider helping me become more successful. It won't take much effort on your part.

I'm trying to increase the ranking of my page in Google and other search engines, since I'm kind of buried right now. One of the ways the search engines determine popularity is by how many pages link to you.

If you feel like helping, put a link to http://vaughnsphotoart.com in your blog or website. It would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, linking to me in a post in LJ doesn't help unless you have the "Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results" box unchecked under Manage >> Info. To make links count in LJ, you either have to uncheck that box (so search engines will read your entries), or you have to put the link in your profile.

Other ways to help...
- if you know anyone planning on decorating a home or office, refer them to my site.
- if you know any interior decorators, tell them about my photos, and give them the url.
- suggest my site to people looking for gifts, or to friends in general.

If anyone knows of free advertising opportunities in local entertainment papers, websites, or any other ideas, please suggest.

Thanks a bunch. I want to be successful at this!

I will do what I can with promoting your work to friends. :)

In the meantime, do you know about SearchEngineWatch.com? They have some great tips on improving your search engine placement. Here's a directly related page:
http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/article.php/2168021

And here's the main page for the topic:
http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/

Their pages are busy, but there is good info for free if you dig through it a bit. Then they have value added info for a fee.

Hopefully, you haven't already seen this.

Hey - I'm in the process of building my photoblog right now. I anticipate having it finished in the next couple weeks. I'm going to have a few links on my About page, and one of them will be to you. If you want to reciprocate, that would rock too! I'll let you know. If I don't, remind me.

I threw the link on my profile too. Does it work if you link through a banner? If so, maybe you should whip up one!

Another suggestion..if you post on any message boards, make sure you have the link in your signature (and emails too).

Yeah, I plan on adding a links page.

Text links are probably better. Search engines can't read the text in images.

Good point.

I'm also thinking of having a few blogs, plus a deviant art site, where all I will do is post my best images.

you're on my profile.. as is Althaea's soaps, I did however make them bold, they were blending into the other text before.

We do search engine marketing here, so I'm fairly familiar with the recommendations. You can go crazy trying to follow all of them though. My new site uses semantic markup (main keywords in a page in an H1 tag, for instance) as much as possible, hopefully has reasonable keyword density (though this is hard to acheive on an image-centric site), and makes good use of alt tags on images. Also, menus are text-based. Those things all help. I'm sure it falls short on any number of other metrics, but like I said, you can go nuts trying to make it all work, to the point of making the page not friendly to humans.

I'll link you in my user info and spread the word were I can! Provided you're ok to ship overseas, that is?

Eep... I'll have to look at the shipping policies of my print house.

I'm sure it can be arranged, even if I ship it to myself and then ship it overseas, but cost will have to be examined.

You're on my user page, and I'll do what I can elsewise. I know of an art gallerie downtown that may want to sell some of your stuff, and there's Hibbert-Davies. Maybe you could check them out as well? :)

Most private galleries I've encountered want you to pay to have your art there. I don't know what Hibbert-Davies is.

Shipping overseas would have to be through special arrangement. They only ship in US/Canada.

On my site it says "For shipping outside the 48 states, email inquiries to..."

Hibbert-Davies is the coffee house on the corner of Center St and Ft Henry Dr in Kpt. Right beside The Vault comic shop and Mac's Medicine Mart. They showcase local talent all the time, but I don't know if there's a fee or not.

I don't have enough framed art to do a show. I need to find away around that.

Hmm... I hope you do find a way around it. Your stuff is awesome.

you should do a show! of course, i am not from the place where you are, but most cities are the same. :) lots and lots of local coffeeshops, tea stores, etc do shows...for free. you are doing THEM a service by decorating their shop! and it looks good on a resume. plus, framed art sells better than unframes art. keep your eye on the hobby lobby online flyers...go when they are having a 50% off sale (which is often). print your work to a size that you can buy ready cut mats for (those go on sale at hobby lobby all the time, too). ten or so should work fine for a small coffeeshop. then whe the regular galleries come knockin' you have some experience with which to polish up your portfolio.

I do that for smaller stuff but I have a lot of larger items too. I'm looking into how to frame those in quantity. I have found places I can buy the frames, and the precut mats. So come a little spare $, I'm going to place a few orders and see how it goes.

Thanks for the ideas. :)

I am an Interior Designer. I will certainly refer people to your site. I've browsed it myself, but can't decide what I want for my own home. I'll be making a purchase at some point, I can guarantee you. Which doesn't help you now, I know, but it's something... Right? =)

I love your photography. And I much prefer to decorate with artwork by friends, art that holds some significance other than "ooh, purty."
