I just sent the following to each of my representatives:

Senator-

I am extremely concerned over recent reports that the President is pushing for exercising a nuclear option against Iran, while ignoring their attempts to dialog. All party differences aside, this is outright madness. Please help the American public put pressure on the Whitehouse to open a dialog, and for God's sake, do not use nuclear weapons.

Here is what I am talking about...

Journalist Seymour Hersh, the reporter who broke the Abu Ghraib prison story, wrote in the April 17th edition of the New Yorker magazine that

"[the] President feels driven to try to contain Iran and that the White House is determined to keep open a nuclear option against strong objections from some top Pentagon officials."

"It's the fact that the White House wouldn't let it go that has got the JCS (Joint Chiefs of Staff) in an uproar".

He also wrote:

"This president is not talking to the Iranians. They are trying very hard to make contact, I can assure you of that, in many different forms".

"He's not talking. And there's no public pressure on the White House to start bilateral talks. And that's what amazes everybody".

There are three very important facts here...
1. The President is pushing for using nuclear weapons, against the advice of his top military advisors.
2. He is ignoring Iran's attempts to communicate.
3. "there's no public pressure".

Regarding #3... there is no public pressure because the public has no idea this is going on. We are being told that Iran is thumbing it's nose at the USA, not that we are ignoring their attempts to talk. They do not know that the President is pushing for the use of nuclear weapons.

Please help get the word out by raising this important issue, and please pressure the Whitehouse to act responsibly in this issue of extreme importance.
