geekiest gift evar?
Apr. 26th, 2006 04:22 pmYesterday was Melanie's birthday. Among the gifts she received from me was... a search engine advertising campaign.
And no, I'm not going to tell you the keywords. I don't want to skew the metrics.
Anyway... seriously geeky gift. I'm going to go stick more pens in my pocket protector now.
PS... for those who have been wondering if I still exist, this post is confirmation that I do, at some level or another. Between birthdays and misc other stuff, I'm lucky to know my own name in the mornings.

There may be more, but these are the ones I've dealt with.
I've never actually ran a Reach Local campaign, but we do them at work.
In this case, I'm using Overture. You use their tools to do research on what keywords were searched on and how many times, and decide what keywords or keyphrases you want. You then check the price. Keywords are bid upon, highest bid means top placement. They only charge you 1 cent more than the next highest bid though... so if my max bid is $1.00 a click, and the next highest is $0.50 a click, they only charge me $0.51/click. You can generate different reports to see how many people have viewed the ad ("impressions") and how many have clicked. It's pretty interesting to play with.
