This is what is left of our T-1. This is the line that feeds our name server, mail server, etc. Obviously, life in this office is not very fun today.

This is the machine that did the work.

Building admin on the left, my boss on the right.

The Sprint guy is getting to work on it...

you know, john has a pretty good sense of humor. once this all blows over, it might make a nice gift to commemorate this event if you get prints of this sequence and frame them together.

or, just a print of the one with him, face in hands. :p

boy, i don't envy you guys today.

No worries. That Sprint guy looks practically rabid to get the job done. Go get 'em Sprint Guy!

Poor boss seems to be gouging his own eyes out.

HA! Propping on a shovel guy does not seem to be assisting Sprint Guy.

Sprint Guy appears to be talking to broken wires, coaxing them to rejoin together and be good.

Why did the big maching dig in that particular spot?

Building admin guy looks a lot like Colin Mockery, a talented improv comedian.

It utterly baffles me that someone who works on repairing cables in the ground for crying out loud, would wear white clothes. Granted, it's before Labor Day, but didn't it occur to him that cables tend to be buried in dirt?

Propping on a shovel guy already did his part... he ran the auger that cut the wires.

What the pictures don't show is that he whacked the water line first, and instead of thinking, "hmm, they obviously didn't mark this area", he instead just moved three feet forward and tried again. That's when he found our T1.

ooph! Apologies to propping on a shovel guy, he has certainly done enough for one day. In fact, I am not so sure that he should be anywhere around Sprint guy or gouging out own eyes boss.
Hope your day gets better!

Apparently they get issued big boxes of disposable tyvek suits. But I'm thinking... man I'd look sharp in one of those. In a sanitary, white-tile kind of way, anyhow. I may try to scam one.

ummm...I hate to mention this and not sure how I missed it the first time....I must have been too busy watching your boss gouge out his eyes...but....
There is a SHOVEL STANDING ALL BY ITSELF.

I see the tip of it in the soil. But it is standing so straight and tall as if an unseen hand is holding it up.

Perhaps something EVIL is around, and maybe machine guy was possessed?
Just a theory.

Here's another no kidding thing... I was talking to the operator... the guy has personally been involved in busting three gas lines, one a major line.

And I'm thinking... And you're still here WHY??

He wants to frame the picture for his office.

And yes, very scary, especially to fragile little phone cable bundles.

A few questions...

* Was it also *your* water line that he massacred?

* Did Sprint Guy actually fix the line? Cause we both know the luck you've had with Sprint in the past.

* Did you say *3* gas lines, and now a water and T-1? Who employs this guy?

Sorry your day went like this. But at least you had an interesting show to eat up the time. :O)

This reminds of something I've seen on NANOG:

"If you ever get lost in the desert, drop a piece of fiber on the ground, and hitch a ride back with the backhoe operator"

The auger driver should be severly LARTed

Not really sure who the water line belongs to. One would think it would be ours being only 3 ft from the t-1. He didn't sever it, just crimped it, so it's hard to tell. The water pressure seemed reduced, so could be ours.

The sprint guy did fix the line. Obviously not one of the Larry, Daryl and Daryl cousins that put in my ISDN line.

Not sure who employs him. That's a good question.

Tell me about it. A thousand lashes with the section of T-1 they had to remove would be a good start.

We made some costumes out of tyvek a few years back for a performance of Corneille’s Illusion. The end result was neat, 18th century dresses complete with boned corsets covered in writing. Apparently it wasn’t all that much fun to sew and couldn’t be washed each night.
