nonspecific and I went out to Blue Hole a weekend or two ago to do some photography and to let her try out a couple of lenses I'm selling. The water was lower than I had ever seen it, and a small cave was accessible off to the right of the middle falls. I had my river sandals on so I made my way past the fall and into the cave. I spent maybe 15 minutes under there, doing shots with and without flash. I literally couldn't feel my feet when I came out, the water was like ice. :)
The rule of thumb I was taught for long zooms (where every movement is magnified), is that shutter speed should be half the reciprocal of your zoom length. Let's put that in english for those who aren't camera nerds.
If you are at 100mm, your shutter speed should be 1/200. If you're at 200mm, your shutter should be 1/400. And if you're at 480mm (which is what 300mm equates to with your 1.6x sensor crop factor), you'd have to shoot at 1/960, effectively 1/1000 sec.
Now, in practice, I found I can push to something closer to 100mm = 1/100, but for best sharpness the above rule of thumb works well.
In that shadowy valley we were in, I'm not surprised you saw blur. Any idea what your shutter speeds were like?
I'll put the 50mm aside then. When do you want to get it? (or just email/call)
I never pay much attention to shutter speed really, more aperture. I think I had it on ISO 400 or 800 and thought I was getting good clear shots... Of course, putting it at that shutter speed would be pointless if it were too dark to be seen. I think the larger problem is that with the carpal tunnel, I'm having a hard time controlling my hands, so I must compensate with a smaller lens. :(
It doesn't matter. I'm not in a terrible hurry. Won't have more moneys till Thursday anyway.
Did I leave my hoodie with you?? I miss it terribly. :(
Yep. It was under the table when I packed up for the night. It's in Mel's shop right now. I can either leave it there, or bring it home, which ever is easier way to get it.
If it is at home, it can keep your batteries company. :)
And my fruit book! Or did I get that back..? I don't know why I'm suddenly bad at leaving my things with you guys. I'm not usually the "lose stuff" kinda person.
