Oh my!

I love the 2nd - so ethereal! and the 3rd looks like a Sesame Street monster :-)

The third one really does. I also saw it as an eye with long lashes, winking...

Thanks. I'm still not happy with the white flower though. I'll have to work on it after taking a day off or so. I've looked at it too much.

that's the plan man.

I went and looked at your picture galleries... it looks like you have a lot of fun with your photos. (not to mention that the "fun with G5 gallery" was entirely too close to shoots I have done). Anyway, hope you'll friend me back. Is that your G5, btw? That's what I use.

Nah, I'm flattered, my pleasure. I really appreciate your comment though. It's encouraging to hear that my photos go beyond being "just a picture" sometimes.

I loke 2 and 4 the best. Lightning is a bitch to get, but I'm guessing you used a digital camera? maybe it's easier with them... but nice shots.

on 2004-06-13 06:20 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] misterx.livejournal.com
digital or film has nothing to do with it, imho, it's being able to do a long exposure that helps.

well, I guess there is one advantage to digital... you can keep taking pics until you get lightning, and you don't have to worry about processing fees.

I meant that with a manual cam you have to set it up on a tripod and set it to B and use a (I forgot what it's called -_-) some to keep the shutter open. I don't usually get my film done in the store because it costs money and you can't pick what negs you want printed and which ones you should just put away... but I don't do color film usually either, I'd love ot learn how to do color film though, printing it I mean.

*shutter release cable.. I think...

Oh. It's true I did have to use a shutter cable on my K-1000 but I didn't know if that was still true with more modern cameras. The Pentax I have is pretty old.

I use a pretty old manual pentax too, I don't know if more modern cameras would require a cable or not... I've only tried getting lighting shots a few times and they weren't too great, but then it was the first time I had used the cable too and it was raining so I had to be under the car port...

I like the fact that these are not closeups for closeups sake, but have shape and form and movemnet and thoughtful composition. Good stuff!

As for the lightning shot, I've given up even trying to get anything like this . .

Found your journal through friends of friends ad nauseum... These are great shots! I seriously contemplated trying to capture lightning during the last storm here, but had no idea how to go about it... I see it can be done! Mind if I add you?

Go for it.

As for how to capture lightning... take long exposures, get comfortable, and be prepared to sit there until your butt goes numb. ;) Actually, I shot those squeezed into the back seat of my Geo Metro, shooting out the back open hatch. So it was my legs that went numb.

I was also highly annoyed with the diety at the lightning switch, they weren't cooperating. I missed three absolutely fabulous bolts by less than a second each.
