(fungi)

And yes, it was really flame orange like that.

It was a beautiful day for a hike, and I was pleased to discover the mountain was covered with these:

Pretty much anywhere I wanted to stop for a minute, I could gather a handful. And I did, several times. They were tangy and sweet, each one a little explosion. Fantastic.

Wild blueberries are the best thing ever on hikes. Or canoe trips; it likes to hang out on the edges of ponds and oxbows. Mmmmmm blueberries...

Indeed. They are such a treat, especially when you forget they are in season and then you see some.

It was truly amazing. It was in a dark area of the forest, lots of overgrowth on the hillside above blocking the sun. I came around this corner in the trail, and at the end of this rhododendron tunnel is something bright orange, glowing like the sun. It was surreal. It startled me, because I didn't know what it was, and for a split second my brain thought "alien!"... which is kind of a bizarre first reaction, if you think about it. Lol

on the other hand, you can get oranges and grapefruits off the tree, so it's not all bad.
