misterxAlthaea's car was giving her problems. Behavior is that it would work fine for a while, until sufficiently warmed up, but then anytime she had the gas pressed down (accelerating or holding steady) the car would "cough and lurch", giving that sensation of "hitting big puddles of water". I'm quoting her description.
I was thinking fuel filter... sounds like it's not getting enough gas when there is a fuel demand. I looked at the basic stuff first... air filter looked pretty good. The plugs looked a little worn, but tolerable. Only one had a gap that was excessive.
Anyway, I went to Advance, got plugs and a fuel filter, and put in the plugs first. Decided to take it for a test drive before putting in the fuel filter (since that involves jacking up the car, depressurizing the fuel system, etc etc).
In my 40 minute test drive, it didn't cough once. I'm crossing my fingers that plugs was all it needed. Odd thing about the plugs I removed though, two were regular, and two were platinum. Ok you motorheads, why would someone do that? Could it have a negative effect? (annoyed I didn't notice which cylinders they were in)

on 2004-08-21 12:27 pm (UTC)and someone probably did that when they checked and noticed that two needed replacing and decided not to replace the platinum ones since they cost more
or vice versa... (i don't know what kind of car this is so i don't know if it comes stock with platinum). they decided "i don't want to replcae these again!" so put platinum in. as long as they're the same tempreture i don't see why it would cause any kind of problem. engines dont care as long as there's a spark to go boom
