suspected Outlook virus...
Jul. 1st, 2005 11:52 amWent down the hall to hook up the wireless, and when I came back to my office I had over a dozen Outlook icons in my taskbar. I took a look... each one a warning box... "Outlook did not terminate correctly, would you like to start Outlook in safe mode?". So I clicked OK to all of them, and then shut off Outlook. It restarted. I shut it off again. It restarted. Uh oh. So I try to google "outlook starts by itself" or similar, but Outlook keeps popping into the foreground. Argh!
So I reboot. Soon as I log in, pow! Outlook. Now I'm starting to freak... I unplug my network cable. I cringe at the thoughts of all the heinous things that might be going on inside my system, and start a virus scan.
It wasn't until 15 minutes later that I notice that the bottom of my monitor is holding down a "special function" button on my keyboard, the one for email, telling it to start my mail client over and over and over again. Yeah, I'm smart. Gawd.
