It is Wednesday evening. After work today I met [livejournal.com profile] shirokarasu at his old apartment and we packed up the last of his stuff and took it to the new place. He's already got the new place looking like a home. Maybe a crowded home full of boxes, but a home.

Just sitting at the pc now, messing around with Recolored. Amazing software. You take a black and white photo, draw some lines to show it what areas should be what colors, and it colorizes the photo. See the following link for an example that shows current image, lined image, and final result... it does an admirable job:

Recolored is based upon an algorythm developed by Anat Levin, Dani Lischinski & Yair Weiss of Israel. It only ran in Matilab then though, and I didn't have that. Here's a link to the original website, if you're interested: http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/~yweiss/Colorization/

Is it bad to have a margarita on a Wednesday eve? What about more than one? I feel quite silly.

I hope not, that's what I usually have.

Try it with Vanilla coke, that's good too.

Multiple margaritas are never bad on any night. ;)

That software is nifty!I'm impressed with how well it picks out the real edges of the objects that you loosely outlined.

In practice, there is a bit of trial and error to it. Add lines, see what it messes up, add a few more. I suspect I went way overboard my first try, as examples I've seen get away with far fewer lines.

We have a bunch of old family photos that would be fun to try it on too.

You can use it on colored pictures too, it just ignores the RGB values and recolors it as though it had been black and white.

Mascara said almost the exact same thing. Great minds drink alike.

Wow, that's really impressive.

The software, I mean, not the margaritas.
