The trip to Whitetop Mtn, VA went well. Visited both Whitetop Meadows and Whitetop Mtn yesterday, and I'm pretty pleased with the photos that resulted. More to come.
Can't wait to see more. I love it up there, and all the history that can be found there in the meadows on the mountain. What do you mean by Whitetop Meadows/Whitetop Mtn.?
In general, I'm only shooting in color now, because I found I have more control over the black and white transition if I do it in the computer. So any b/w shots start as color.
I often do a histogram adjustment, a sharpen, and if it's color, adjust the saturation if it needs it. I will do minor corrections such as removing spots or powerlines, if I think it detracts from the image.
This shot in particular, was shot with a canon 20d and 17-40mm f/4.0 lens, F 11 at 1/60sec, ISO 100, aperture priority. I converted it to b/w, cropped it, adjusted the histogram, and I think adjusted the contrast. Then sharpened. Then put the little border around it. :)

You've inspired me to troop out into the mountains next weekend. Though I'm a bit afraid of getting shot.
So what's the cost of living over there in your parts?
