These were taken last weekend in Elizabethton, TN.

I'll probably post one of these in Rural Ruin.

Now, THAT is a portrait of depression. Good work (not said ironically).

When the mood hits, might as well roll with it.

I hate it when I wreck my truck in the swamp.

I like #1. Cool subject.

I think #1 better captures the mood of the car, but #2 better captures the mood of the scene, with the factory in the background and all. It suggests a place forgotten by time.

That's true.

both of them are quite nicely done!

I find I'm creative in ANY altered kind of mood/emotional state - depression, sadness, happiness - you know, outside the 'norm' emotional state - even PMS....whatever it takes!

Use it - and then suck up the sense of accomplishment (you must feel)when you produce work like THIS!

You're lucky... sometimes the depression gets the better of me... it impairs my ability to find images.

well, it makes sense, doesn't it?
for me, anyway - depression is a (at least partial) shut down for me. It makes sense that we might 'lose' part of ourselved during that time.
I've found that dabbling in many different creative things, there's always something I can find to do, that will help me find a sense of accomplishment. For me, depression often makes me lose my sense of self, my sense of self worth.
I often deprive myself of things I love the most when I'm depressed.
Just like making myself get out of bed, I've got to force myself to DO something - but it always, always makes me feel better!!

(I have NO idea why I'm so rambly this mornin'!)

I had a boyfriend once who absoluely loved seeing old factories and buildings and cars etc totally destroyed, torn down and whatnot and being over grown by nature. And I totally agree and do too.

Its actually rather beautiful. No matter what happens... No matter how much "industry" and "progress" there is... nature can not be stopped. material things come and go but nature... LIFE... is forever.

I found something written on a wall at the Bathhouse Ruins in S.F. many years ago in white paint and a brush...which I would not be suprised if it wasnt there anymore..I dont know who wrote it. Whether it was written by them or by someone else and he felt it belonged on that piece of broken wall. It wasnt signed. For all I know, that person could be dead and gone by now as well.... It said: (and Im reading from the pic I took of it)

"PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It may be helpful to remember that things have not always been as they are;
this may be obvious as it sounds, easy to forget while
walking concrete paths and perceiving streams of
traffic and rectangular shelters.

It may be helpfulto keep in mind that at one time
these constructions were NON-EXISTANT.

It may be of some use to LOOK over
ALL that you can see right now, The expanse and boundaries
of your environment and think how all of this will be Gone one day.
Eaten.
And reapplied.

It may be helpful to see beauty in DECOMPOSITION; Because like
the leaves of trees turn bright and fall to the ground to replenish
their mother, it is also our inescapable privilage TO ROT.

So it now becomes necessary to view all items in the world as reflections.
All objects as mirrors.
And then move upon this basis."

Isnt that beautiful? :)

That's awesome. When I see a sagging house or a forgotten ruin, or a swirl of oil in a puddle, it reminds me that I am within the neverending process of birth and destruction that is the universe. Swirls of decay making the raw materials for the next creation. My awareness of this creates a strong feeling of belonging and rightness within me... the great machine works all around me, and in me, and through me. I am both cog and observer, and I walk in amazement through the intricacies of it's movements.

The world, seen in this way, is full of beauty, even in decay. The ballet of being is everywhere.

I think I may make a regular post of this.

Its fun! I've met a lot of cool ppl there. It's a cool way to network with people in your area and everywhere. Either socially or professionally. Or just to keep in touch with friends and your local scene. Its kinda like LJ but not focused on the blog aspect tho it has a blog there too. I've seen and met lots of cool photogaphers there too. You link up/make "friends" with other ppl in your profession/hobby and at the very least have fun lookin at other stuff and at the very most make some very lucrative connections.

heres my profile and my blog links :)
