It should probably tell you something when you discover there is no way you can fit your entire life into the largest moving truck u-haul rents. I got the 26 footer. If I was to move everything in one shot, I would need at least a 40 footer.

I recruited my Dad, poor guy, to help me heft things. I tried to tell him that manly bonding was the greatest father's day gift a kid could give, but I don't think he was buying it. Regardless, between he and I we carried everything out of the house and loaded the entire truck full, and then unloaded it at the designated storage facility. It took about 10 hours overall.

Since it's an old house, the stairways are over-tight, and you can't fit a queen boxspring or mattress down either one of them. This led to me lowering them off the roof of the porch on a rope, which was surely an amusing sight. I got a bit overboard with it, and also lowered headboards, siderails, a small dresser, a safe, some end tables, shelving units, etc. It saved a lot of time.

Whilst unpacking, I got caught in one of the worst rainstorms I've ever been in. I ran to check that the windows in my Dad's car were up. Elapsed time, 15 seconds. I was soaked to the bone. I turned around for the return sprint, and somehow it managed to rain even harder, to where I couldn't see, and was having a hard time breathing without inhaling water. There was instantly two inches of standing water everywhere at once. It was amazing. After how hot I had been all day though, it felt great. Through some quick improvisation, we rigged a dropcloth between the roof of the truck and the roof of the storage building, and managed to make a dry pathway for us to carry stuff through.

Althaea packed the kitchen and pantry yesterday. I'm so glad she did it, my eyes glazed over everytime I tried to start on it. It was a kingsize job, I think she filled 10 good sized boxes or so. There was a frightening amount of stuff in that room (the kitchen/dining room was the largest room in the house). She also brought lunch and water, which I was highly grateful for. Poor thing, she looked so beat.

Anyway, most of the stuff is moved out. There were a few things we couldn't fit, but Dad is going to come by with truck and trailer and we'll move those separately. I still have to get ahold of a roof guy, and have to replace some boards on the front porch. I don't know if I have to do anything with the windows in Lorelei's room or not, I guess I better ask the realtor what the woman is expecting. I can't believe I have only half a week to do all this! Ack!!!

Thhpt. I don't wanna go to work. I wanna sleep!

Wow! Moving is such a huge job. I especially liked the way you lowered stuff down off the roof with ropes. Excellent idea!! We're talking to mortgage bankers right now to see if we qualify yet to buy a house instead of renting. I dread packing and moving again, but if it means we'll be able to be in our own home I'll happily endure it.
Congrats on getting the house mostly cleared tho.. I know what a big job it is.

Be careful, often they will readily lend you more than it is wise for you to borrow.

that's what we're trying to be careful of.. yep.. I'd hate to see us stuck with something that we can't possibly afford..

I was able to comfortably afford the last house I bought, but not much else, which hellasucked.
