Two weekends ago shirokarasu and I went to Grandfather Mtn to take pics (which is where the bear and mtn lion pics came from). I've tried a few times to get a pic that captures the sense of height when you are going up the ladders... this is the closest I've gotten:

It's pretty big, about 500k and 1500x1000, so you can see the ladders. If you look carefully, you can see three ladders, and the top of a fourth. A fifth is hidden behind the rock with the blue arrow. You can also see a grab cable attached to that rock.

the look there on my face is sheer terror. I made it up to where he was but could go no further due to extreme vertigo and muscle lockdown.

Also, I'm totally amazed that you saw the bear and mountain lion out in the wild. I assumed you'd gone to a zoo or something. How cool!

lol... no, grandfather mtn has a wildlife preserve that is equivalent to a small zoo.

Aha. Oh well. If you ever do see a mountain lion or bear in the wild I certainly expect you to take some good photos for us! From a safe distance with a good zoom lens, of course. ;)
