One continent, under God, indivisible
Jun. 7th, 2006 09:37 amWhat would you say if I told you that by 2010, the continent of North America would be governed by a single entity? A new superstate would be born, in which the borders between the USA and Canada and Mexico would be dissolved, and a single unified border would be formed around the perimeter of the North American continent.
And what if I told you this was being done right now, without debate from congress, and without the awareness of the American public?
I came across two articles today by Jerome R. Corsi, one entitled "North American Union to Replace USA?" and a follow-up entitled "North American Union Already Starting to Replace USA". In them, Corsi describes a series of high level policy changes and agreements currently being made between the US, Mexico and Canada called the "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" that will effectively create a single superstate.
The cast of characters is impressive... from the US, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. From Mexico are Secretario de Economía Fernando Canales, Secretario de Gobernación Carlos Abascal, and Secretario de Relaciones Exteriores, Luis Ernesto Derbéz. Representing Canada are Minister of Industry David L. Emerson, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety, Anne McLellan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pierre Stewart Pettigrew.
A May 2005 report by the Council on Foreign Relations entitled "Building a North American Community" states
Corsi sums up the problem as follows:
Representatives of the SPP have already been meeting with business groups in industry and political and legislative groups, to set a series of actionable steps. The Bush administration is already making policy changes to move it forward. The plan is underway.
Before you dismiss this as a bunch of "liberal ranting", I want to point out that (1) I'm not a liberal, I'm equally sick of both parties, and (2) Corsi and the Humaneventsonline.com website are very conservative/Republican.
I am highly suspicious of the whole thing... I do not believe the government acts out of the good of it's heart. Personally, I suspect Canda and Mexico are being suckered into this deal with promises of a voice and shared resources, but in truth this is a massive underhanded land grab by the United States. Let's face it, if the union comes to be, which of the three governments is going to wield the most power? Maybe lets create it, consolidate some power and governmental bodies, and then let it fail, so the good old USA has to step in and "pick up the pieces". Or who knows, by some off chance maybe the SPP will end up being a good thing, but that isn't the point:
The point is, I'm SICK AND TIRED of the administration doing an end run around our system of checks and balances.
If the US is going to join a superstate that would abrogate portions of our soverenty and legal protections, or if it may be something more sinister, I want to have a voice! I want the congress to debate it. I want it all over the TV, papers and 'net. You know why? Because the administration doing stuff like this WITHOUT checks and balances is goverment running amok. If they can do things like this, there is nothing stopping them from trampling our rights into the ground, as we've already seen with the NSA spying scandal, or worse. Maybe if Congress and the judiciary are diminished enough, they can be phased out entirely. One continent, under our God, indivisible.
Make no mistake folks, you're watching your precious constitution being slowly dissolved.

"The Task Force’s central recommendation is the establishment by 2010 of a North American economic and security community, the boundaries of which would be defined by a common external tariff and an outer security perimeter. (page xvii)"
Corsi sums up the problem as follows:
"Once again, none of the 30 or so working agendas makes any mention of submitting decisions to the U.S. Congress for review and approval. No new U.S. laws are contemplated for the Bush administration to submit to Congress. Instead, the plan is obviously to knit together the North American Union completely under the radar, through a process of regulations and directives issued by various U.S. government agencies. "
...
"Anyone who has wondered why President Bush has not bothered to secure our borders is advised to spend some time examining the SPP working groups’ agenda. In every area of activity, the SPP agenda stresses free and open movement of people, trade, and capital within the North American Union. Once the SPP agenda is implemented with appropriate departmental regulations, there will be no area of immigration policy, trade rules, environmental regulations, capital flows, public health, plus dozens of other key policy areas countries that the U.S. government will be able to decide alone, or without first consulting with some appropriate North American Union regulatory body."
...
"Again, the CFR report says nothing about reporting to Congress or to the American people. What we have underway here with the SPP could arguably be termed a bureaucratic coup d’etat. "
Representatives of the SPP have already been meeting with business groups in industry and political and legislative groups, to set a series of actionable steps. The Bush administration is already making policy changes to move it forward. The plan is underway.

on 2006-06-07 04:21 pm (UTC)I am with you on this one!! This is what frustrates me the most about the current administration.
I am also having difficulty imagining a majority of Canadians agreeing to a one North American state (unless my illusions about how much cooler most Canadians are is getting ready to be shattered). Maybe I'll raise the question when I'm there next week.
