Crispy toasty brain

misterxWell. It's been interesting.
Yesterday on the way home, the Hyundai went through a series of odd behaviors before ceasing to work at all. Stranded on the highway with Lorelei, on the way home from school. Called Dad, we tried jumping it off, etc, nothing. So took Lorelei to my Mom's, and went back to work on it some more.
Switched batteries, had lots of pep, but electrical dies when you try to start it. An obvious load is put on the batt, but no crank. So, rolled it down the hill to a campground near Bristol Motor Speedway. Turns out it was one of my old clients, and he was nice enough to let me keep it there so somebody didn't throw a brick through the window overnight.
Dad brought us home around 10, worked on the damn Geo grapemobile until past 11 to get it running (it had decided to quit working because I parked it for two weeks). At least I have transport now, even if it isn't street legal.
Left super early to get Lorelei to school with time allotted for car difficulties. Got to work this morning, several servers down, WTF? We make many irate phone calls to the hosting facility, get someone to meet us there to let us in. We trace down power feeds. Turns out the hosting facility we have them at gave us a serious line of crap regarding the steady nature of their redundant power supply. The truth... 1 small UPS tucked in a cabinet, with 8 outlets. Each outlet has an outlet strip plugged into it. Each strip is full... some slots taken with more outlet strips plugged into them!! Daisy-chained together. A conservative estimate would be 100 devices on this one UPS alone. We pulled several servers on the spot... will come back for the rest after adjusting TTL's.
