"Seems that those International Oil Companies (can you say EXXON, MOBILE, and BP for starters), stand to pluck the Iraqi people for about $21 Trillion. Folks that's twenty one thousand BILLION.
...
According to the Oil deal that Bush says must be signed, Kucinich reports that the deal requires that the Oil Companies get control of over 80% of the Iraqi Oil fields. The CEO's of those Companies have complete control of every aspect of the oil for 35 years into the future. Iraq gets to keep 17 oil fields, but even for these fields, operational control is in the hands of the International Oil companies.
Kucinich also points out that this plan was formulated well before the invasion."

on 2007-05-31 10:55 pm (UTC)I lost one cousin and several friends in this fiasco- and damned if I don't feel that it was a waste and a shame.
Gods, Butchie- I HOPE you have your chance to walk the earth again and smite the hell out of people who used the soldiers to fatten their own wallets.
And I hope to hell I am right behind you when it happens

on 2007-06-01 07:00 am (UTC)I came back to see what you're up to, oogle at some MORE lovely photos (I've missed those quite a bit), and to ask you some camera-y stuff because I plan to buy a nice digital camera soon (blame shirokarasu for the idea to bug you about that ;-)). YAY for financial things maybe getting better for me and my guy if the way it's looking is for real.
I've gotten active again in local social and environmental groups recently. There's still a lot of scary stuff going on out there, things I almost wish I didn't know just for sanity's sake. Egad, again I say. :-(

on 2007-06-01 06:49 pm (UTC)Sorry about the political stuff. I'd like to stick my head in the sand, but I feel like I should be burying weapons and food there instead to prepare.
The Canon A series are great cameras, a good combo of portability and creative control. It's what I will get Lorelei when the time comes.

on 2007-06-01 11:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't know if you've waded through my recent entries (or feel like doing so at all), but the A640 is my second pick, but only just narrowly. The G7 has my main attention due to supposed image quality, but it's more expensive, MIGHT be missing some nice features I'd like, and has gotten some less-than-spectacular reviews. I really wish there were a way I could test-run them, but I can't find either one in-stock in local stores. There's only so much online reviews can do, without hands-on trials. We'll see. :-) I'm sure either one would be super-nice for me and would do what I want (pictures of bugs/birds/scenery/sporty stuff, among less difficult things).
