I make windchimes out of mine. I guess that counts as recycling, right? I have enough platters to make two more chimes at the moment. You need a couple sizes of small torx-bit screwdrivers and about 10 minutes to take one apart.

The shiny round things are the platters. They spin around, and a movable arm reads data off them. A little high-tech record player. :) The platters are corrosion resistant and are made of good quality metal with a nice coating. They make a lovely ringing sound.

I assembled these using a section of tent peg for the horizontal section, some strong fishing line, and some beads I got from Lorelei.

The magnets inside are crazy strong too, but they are usually attached to an ungainly metal bracket which limits their usefulness. I don't recommend using them as refrigerator magnets unless your child likes to draw on plywood.

That's a very cool idea! Thanks for putting out there...I would have never thought of doing something like that. I bet you could sell those at an arts and craft show and make fairly good money from them. Definitely an interesting idea to make use of the old 'puter parts.

Found this on my friends of friends page--just had to comment because I made a HD platter windchime a few years ago! I was amazed that the platters were still shiny after a couple of years in the weather. It's in a box since moved :)

Yours looks nicer than mine, btw :)

Too funny! LOL...no biggie...I am notorious for reading my friends friend's pages when I have already read everything else. Must be slow at work for you today, huh?
