I don't know if the entrant from California lost the Miss USA pagent due to the way she answered the "do you support gay marriage" question, but I hope so. Its a hateful and bigoted viewpoint, not to mention unconstitutional. The fewer prominent public figures we have continuing to spout this modern day equivalent of racism, the better.

She did lose from the rumors going around anyway, due to her statement. I was shocked at her response, and she seemed for a split second to hesitate like "was that ok to say" but then kept going on with explaining her reason for her bigotry.
I'm glad she lost. Very.

Truly. I am sure we will hear the conservative right take up her cause, but for me, hell... she may as well have gotten up there and said "the white race is superior, bring slavery back". It sounds the same to my ears.

When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Except that you can't choose same sex marriage in most states, the government won't allow it. Being from California, which just passed Proposition 8 in favor of forbidding gay couples from marrying, I think it was appropriate for Perez to ask her.

What I'm really wondering is WHO still even listens to what any Miss America pageant airhead "thinks" or says?

Oh. Right. Why yes, yes I had. Gouged the horror from my mind. A kind of PTSD amnesia.

Perez Hilton says that it assisted in her losing the title, and he has been on a couple of shows since, like Larry King, to lambaste her further. As I saw in another article, some of the most passionate devotees to the Miss USA pageant are gay men, and she did not make any friends with that response.

And she managed to sound like such an airhead while doing it, which is fine with me -- let's have that kind of attitude associated with airheads and idiots. Perhaps it means people that think will actually think about the issue and come to the reasonable conclusion that separate but equal never is.
