I had hoped to have some high dynamic range images for you, but that hasn't been going so well. For one thing, my tripod was in the car, which was with Melanie in Big Stone Gap. Beyond that though, I just having trouble getting the HDRI's to come out. I'm not sure if it's that the source images were too dark, or I just don't have the knack of the settings. But I'm having trouble making anything that is an improvement over a regular image.

The rest of these images are the surrounding area.

Did you get to go any further than what is shown in pic#3?

Yes. There are some side chambers, one of which is as long as the tunnel portion itself. Black as pitch in there, but I brought flashlights. But as far as going *past* the tree, it just opens out to a small section of woods adjoining a river. Not much further to go in that direction.

I am especially fond of that first shot..I love the way the tree is just peeking in almost with that splash of color.

For me it's the last shot that comes closest to capturing the feeling of magic in that place, but the first shot does give the context. It makes it look closer than it is though, it's actually a fairly long shot through there. The opening on the other end is huge.

I love them all.. but I'm fond of places like that :) which is why I want to explore TN if I were able. :)
but #7 had a lot of the texture to it in my view that I think you were going for.
Sorry I'm photographically illiterate lol

You don't have to understand the terms and science behind photography to appreciate it. How does it make you feel, what does it make you think of? This is how I measure if I did my job well. The comments I like most are the ones where people tell me what emotional strings a photo plucked.
