He was very cooperative. I got dozens of shots of the little guy/gal. Now to identify it.

Holy Beezus, that's incredible. I saw it this morning but was too sleepy for it to have an impact. So I just got a double-whammy surprise, checking now. Thanks! :-)

Awesome photo, Vaughn.

He (or she, not sure) let me get closer than my camera would focus. I don't know why they were so docile that day. It wasn't just this one bird, I don't think. There was one further up the mount that was acting similarly.

Thanks Rob. :) You don't have any idea what type of bird this is, do you?

It looks like a northern junco to me. See here for comparative images:

Agreed, "Junco" was my first impression. :-) We do have lots of them around here, and they're very active at feeders in winter. It could be a juvenile too, as younger birds often don't seem to have the "potential danger" idea figured out yet, and it's fledging time for many species. Then again, Juncos are fairly bold little birds.

NICE shot, Vaughn! You're tempting me to get another camera. How big is your EOS? And did you use an extra zoom lens for this shot?

How big? Uh, with this lens at 500mm and the lens hood, it's approaching two and half, or three. Feet.

lol

Haha, yeah, not something I would be able to just casually carry around then? ;-)

It's been two years since I got the S3 IS. Now that my cellphone has somewhat decent video, I'm tempted to get a non-video digital camera...so with that as well as two more years of technology out of the way, I might find something that takes better pictures and still be as compact if not moreso. But I'll also have to remember that I'm not going to come out with the amazing shots you get with yours.
