Jun. 10th, 2004 08:50 pmIf anyone out there has a killer salsa recipe, lay it on me. I just got back from the store, and I'm disappointed in having 50 brands of what appear to be characterless salsas. Homogeneous red slurry, no color, no separation, bleah.
I want real salsa, and I'm prepared to cook to get it. I'm particularly interested in one where the veggies are fire roasted before using. Anybody?

on 2004-06-11 04:26 am (UTC)But I don't remember her ever making salsa. I'm sure she could come up with some but I was interested in what other people were using, and what they liked.

on 2004-06-10 08:10 pm (UTC)here is my healthy (fire roasted) salsa
on 2004-06-10 08:41 pm (UTC)1 red pepper
1 poblano pepper (here is a pic if you don't know...http://tasteoftx.com/recipes/chiles/poblano.html...it's a great mexican pepper)
4 scallians (a.k.a. green onions)
1 onion, peeled and quartered
2 cloves garlic, peeled
2 jalapeños
Juice of 1 lime
Sea salt and pepper to taste
Cilantro (to taste)
Olive oil
Coat the vegetables with a little olive oil and either grill or broil in a very hot oven on a baking sheet until charred. Remove stems. Purée the vegetables in a food processor. Pour into a bowl; add lime juice and cilantro and season to taste with sea salt and pepper.
OK, well I hope you like. Have fun with this base. Sometimes i don't add jalapeños, I just add more poblano pepper's. I also like a lot of garlic so i've added more then 2 cloves. Let me know if you got your fix! *hehe*
