We're back from a really great four-day vaca. We stayed in Springfield, TN, which is about an hour north of Nashville, and visited with Mel's father and step-mother in Adairville, KY. We went into Nashville every day to do something. Among our destinations were the Science Adventure Museum (now also known as the "evacuate the building" museum, more on that later), the Nashville Zoo, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (Yeah! I was particulary excited to see The Pre-Raphaelite Dream: Paintings and Drawings from the Tate Collection. I have a major weakness for the emotion and sensuality of Pre-Raphaelite imagery, and the Frist is the only place this collection will be shown in the US), plus several restaurants, a couple international food stores (made a major score of good quality incense and some henna paste for [livejournal.com profile] shirokarasu), and at least one fireworks stand ;). I went swimming with the girls three out of four days, and took several exploratory walks around Springfield. We stayed busy, but I also had enough spare time to read "A Bridge of Birds", which was mostly lighthearted and occasionally profound. I see a bit too much of myself in Li Kao... after all, I do have a slight flaw in my character.

All in all, it was just what the doctor ordered. Pictures to come, of course.

Cool, I was at the movie theater with my son in Springfield on Monday to see Spiderman 2.....I'm from the town SOUTH of Springfield called Greenbrier!

SO, I think that if you stayed in Springfield...you had two choices for hotels...Super 8 and Hamptom Inn...not a very big City!

Cool, I walked by that theatre.

Heck, if I knew we were going to be so close I would have suggested meeting up with you and your sweetie for lunch or something.

Weird. How the heck did I come to know so many people from that area without realizing it? You're now the third person I *should* have met!

So you walked around the square? Careful there buddy!

It's not the nicest theatre BUT it's $1 to get in M-F!!!!

Yeah, you should have hollered at us....Lori left Monday morning for a camping trip and won't be back til Friday....but she was around SAT and SUN!

On your way back home on I-40....just past Mt juliet and before you get to the new 840...there's a Lebanon/Gallatin exit on HWY 109....we live about 14 miles from there!

Hope you enjoyed your stay in Robertson County, Tennessee!

I found several places that required more caution than by the theater. :) Looking at the front of the theatre, I went right and kept going, over the tracks. A lot of poverty out that way, and I was later warned that there are a lot of drug problems there too.

I saw the Gallatin exit... made me think of Johnny Cash.

Oh well, I'll give y'all a shout next time. :)

Glad you had a good time. :)

Though for the life of me I still can't understand why anyone would visit TN on purpose. I guess I've interacted with the wrong section. :P

Like anywhere, it's what you make of it. There is a lot of music and culture to be had in Nashville, if you look.

Indeed. There were several that really struck me, but I haven't taken time to track them all down yet. It was amazing to see these in the original, with cracked paint and brush strokes and everything. I was amazed how vibrant they were. I was in heaven. :)

These images don't do justice, by the way:

"Take your son, sir."

"Prosperine"

"Marianna"

I know those three very well.

William Waterhouse is my man....The Lady of Shallot, Ophelia, Miranda...
...exceptional.

I could talk all day about the pre-Raphaelites :)

I was trying to find a link that shows everything that was in the exhibit but so far no go. Mel's stepmum bought her the book of the collection, so maybe I'll scan some from that.

Yeah, I did. I want to go back and write a few things down before I return it to the library.
