on 2003-09-04 12:52 pm (UTC)Think about it. It's one thing to strap a bomb to your chest and hold a button, saying you are going to blow yourself up. It's quite another to *lock* a *timed* bomb to yourself, and leave the keys at home. Why the hell would you do that?
From what I read though, this guy never even revealed he had the bomb until he was caught by the cops (it was hidden under his shirt), and then pleaded with the cops, "why isn't someone trying to get this off me" and "I don't have much time", saying someone had forced him to do it.
This type of "explosive collar" has been used before in South America and in Columbia. So anyway. Freaky.

on 2003-09-04 04:59 pm (UTC)In one of the cases the businessman did as instructed and he was set free from the bomb. In the other case, the police somehow intercepted the businessman, prevented him from giving money to the people who strapped the bomb, tried to deactivate it themselves, and sadly they didn't know what they were doing because it exploded and the man died.
