Not too long ago, a certain person who shall remain [livejournal.com profile] nonspecific was at our house, obstensively to retrieve her child, but really to hang out. In the process of hanging, as often happens, my camera found its way into my hand, and photos were taken. These are those photos. Plus a couple extras. :)

1. Nonspecific:

2.

3.

4. Melanie with Shoulder Cat, aka Sinbad

5.

These next two need explanation, and credit. They are not by me. They are of me.

6. This was taken by Nonspecific, I don't recall what we were talking about.

7. The second, was taken by Cheryl, a photographer out of Abingdon. She took several shots of me. They all looked more or less like this. Taken at Abrams Falls.

It's nice to see you all. :-) You're looking good. I love it when my cat does that too (lies in my arms), which isn't that often enough for me.

Well, we call Sinbad our "purr baby", because she loves to be held and just purrs away. Emma is much more aloof.

Love that last picture!

If Mel is back in town, ask her to please check her gmail account.

Ok. She didn't have internet the whole time she was in LA, so she's pretty backlogged. I reminded her this morning.

Yeah, she's a cool bean.

Have you ever tried inverting a tripod shaft, so the camera is suspended underneath? Works great for macros.

if it has a geared center column, it probably can't. if it has a "quick column", it probably can.

I *almost* bought a new tripod. I decided to just go with a new head for now. Providing the new head fits my existing tripod, I'll be keeping it. On the chance that the new head doesn't fit, would you be interested in my current 'pod? It's carbon fiber, has retractable rock spikes, and I can provide two quick release plates. It's seen use, I won't lie, but it's solid.

I'm changing heads only because I want a ballhead that uses Manfrotto RC2 compatible plates, so I can use one of these: http://www.camdapter.com/ My current head is damn close, but the RC2 plate fits just a tad loose, which means it may as well not fit at all.

The only thing is shipping would probably cost a lot.

Actually this may not make sense, considering you could probably buy one new at best buy for what shipping would be.

what ARE you doing to that tree??

you thought any more about doing a photo shoot with me? while it scares the living crap out of me, i'm intrigued to see what you can do.

jealous? ;)

Yeah, I have thought more about it, and am probably doing too much mulling. I want to have it all figured out before I start, but maybe that is too ambitious. Maybe we just need to pick a time and location and go for it.

you kidding? TOTALLY jealous!!!

go for it, eh? now i'm REALLY nervous! ;)

did you miss the part about me being a wee hesitant? you may have to be there.

...although, that could turn into a WHOLE different kind of photo shoot! ;)

whee! sure, i can be there if it helps you.

art is art, babe. get too scared of going where it's going and it just turns into something mediocre. that's my theory anyway. i'm happy to be there if it helps, though.

i can imagine your shape, skin, hair, bone structure, etc. lending itself well to that sort of chromatic thing.

it's the "camera adds 10 pounds to the already 240 pounds i have" thing that scares me. it's not the being nekkid that is bothering me, it's what it'll look like when it's done. eeeee.

but i'm game.

frank may freak, but maybe we just won't tell him until after it's complete...

on 2009-03-04 08:29 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] melanie.livejournal.com
nekkid might not even be necessary, maybe. depends, i guess. i think we should just come over some time and hang out, listen to mellow music, relax and let the brains lead the way.

The one I took of you looks too grainy. :(

And linky linky to the ones I took of Lorelei. I suppose I should unlock that.

Posted by [identity profile] misterx.livejournal.com
Well, you were sitting closer to the window than I, so I had the light advantage.

I was going to link to the Lorelei pics, but they were locked. Thanks for beating back the wolves on that one comment, btw. :)

These are all great photos. You are lucky to always be surrounded by beautiful ladies! The last photo, was that you playing in the brisk winter cold and snow?

You always take such breathtaking photos. I only wish I had more disposable income to throw your way. Also very glad someone purchased your camera off you so quickly. Another purchase I wish I could've made. Once again, lack of disposable income kept me from throwing my hat into the ring.

Love the pictures.

Side note: Could I point you or rather point [livejournal.com profile] butterfly_smile(yes one of my
SOs in your direction). She is looking to get a SLR and she is just getting into the photography thing.

Nope on yours but since I know nothing about SLRs I figured you could guide her in the right direction on what to get for a "newbie"

Nice! Your hair is as long as mine except... long hair looks better on you! Very nice shots though... I like pictures that seem to have a story behind them.

Sorry, thought I was replying to Nonspecific's personal journal.

But great shots and kudos to you sir!

Thanks. I was pretty sure my hair isn't as long as yours, so I knew what you meant. :)

Yeah, I was kinda like... you shaved your head? before I realized you were talking about me. :P

The story is "Vaughn, what can I do if the lighting sucks for the wedding I have to shoot in a couple weeks?" and we both whipped out our cameras and were messing around with the settings. Meanwhile, I got a phone call and was trying to look non-stupid. :P

I have that same worry about shooting weddings. Because you don't really have the time or space, usually, to set up lighting for shots and often church weddings can be dim and shitty. So if you have any tips for that please fill me in!

And you do not look stupid on the phone. You should be in a Verizon advertisement.

Yup, I prefer outdoor weddings on nice sunny days. Preferably in the woods. :P I don't know if I'm the best for lighting tips, other than "I hate the flash." I really should take some classes.

Can you hear me now?

wonderful :)
